Around The Grounds

Drama

 

Year 11 Drama Students have begun their Preliminary Course with exploring improvisation, playbuilding and acting and will begin a study of Contemporary Australian theatre through the play “Stolen” which explores the experiences of the Stolen Generations. This term they will present a directorial vision and produce a group devised performance for an audience.

HSC Drama have been analysing, researching and workshopping Multi Discipline Theatre (MDT) and are working on the development of their Individual Performance/Projects (IP). Later in the term they will present an original whole class performance piece about body image inspired by the processes and techniques used by Complicite, a UK Theatre Company. Their Drama Performance Examination will be held on a day between Monday 16 August and Friday 27 August 2021. All individual projects are required to be submitted by 9:00 am on Monday 16 August.

Music

 

Students in Junior Music are learning to play the guitar, ukulele and keyboard, and have developed knowledge about the Instruments of the Orchestra and Music Notation.

Years 9 and 10 Music have started the year well, improving both their performing and listening skills. They completed various activities which included performing selected repertoire. 

The Preliminary Music Students are currently analysing selected aural examples, revisiting the Concepts of Music and working on their performances.

HSC Music are fine tuning their Electives and Core Performances in preparation for their HSC Practical Examination which will be held on a day between Monday 30 August and Saturday 10 September 2021.

Photography

Students in Year 9 were introduced to Black and White Photography in their first weeks of the year and are improving their concepts of still photography through photographic practice and techniques.

Visual Art

Year 7 Visual Art Students are investigating a range of art making activities including printmaking, ceramics, painting and portraiture. 

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie is the topic of study for Year 8 Visual Art Students, where they are exploring Australian and local artists who work in graphic design to produce art for commercial purposes.

Students in Year 9 Visual Art are learning about landscape and place through the study of modernist artists such as Van Gogh. They are also investigating contemporary Aboriginal art and the significance of land and culture. Year 10 Visual Art students are learning how artists use their surrounding environments for inspiration and have been discussing the difference between natural and man made influences. They will be investigating a range of artists starting with John Wolseley and exploring printmaking techniques.

The different types of expressive forms, artists and artworks students will be studying and making this year has been the focus for the first few weeks of The Preliminary Visual Arts Course. This has included a series of drawings, where they are investigating hands with a direct link to the Renaissance case study. 

HSC Visual Arts students are analysing Art as Political Discourse with a strong focus on the Cultural Frame, World and Audience. They will apply and demonstrate their understanding of themes and issues surrounding political issues in art and use the Conceptual Framework to compile a case study on this topic. They are also resolving their ideas for the Body Of Work which needs to be submitted by Monday 23 August 2021.
