Explaining Absences

SMS Messages

Parents or Carers receive SMS messages advising of whole day and partial student absenteeism, they can reply to this absentee SMS message to provide an explanation.

Please note:

  • explanation of an absence should be provided to the school within a period of seven days
  • if you can't reply to the SMS service, a note explaining the absence should be provided
  • if you anticipate your child being absent for more than 5 days, depending on the circumstances, you will either be required to provide a Doctor's Certificate (for illness/injury) or make application to the Principal for exemption from attendance (family holiday)

Alternate options:

There are a number of alternate options available to advise of your child's absence from school:

  • call administration 02 4969 3177 and information can be taken over the phone
  • provide a handwritten letter of explanation, get your child to submit it at our Main Office
  • email your explanation with 'Absence Note' and your child's name in the subject to newcastle-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au
