Each faculty will host a stall showcasing the dynamic learning opportunities within their department. Attendees will have the chance to interact with teachers, explore curriculum offerings, and gain insight into the academic programs available. Additionally, guided tours of our campus will be led by our Year 12 leaders. Join us for the Faculty Exhibition Evening, held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and discover the excellence of education at NHS.

● Academic Assessment Placement Test for SAIL

The Academic Assessment Placement Test has been designed to allow students to demonstrate their abilities across a range of areas, including reading, mathematical reasoning, thinking skills and writing. To be eligible to sit the test, students must have completed the EOI and paid the test administration fee to the NHS office through our online portal. This information can be found on our HPaGE webpage.

On the test day, students must bring:

  • two 2B pencils, an eraser and a pencil sharpener
  • a clear bottle of water to keep under the desk during the test
  • any items approved as adjustments for disability, including anaphylaxis kits containing an EpiPen, the Action plan for anaphylaxis and the medication.
  • Students who wear glasses and those who require asthma inhalers and spacers, tissues, diabetes equipment, or FM transmitters should bring them to the test.

Students are required to make their own way to and from NHS. This event will run from 8.30am-12.30pm, parents/carers can pick up and drop off at the front of NHS (Parkway Avenue entrance). Cost to be determined.

● Year 6 Taster Lessons

The objective of the taster lesson is to provide Year 6 students with a preview of the experiences awaiting them at NHS. This initiative aims to ease any apprehensions regarding the transition to high school, fostering a sense of excitement and motivation as they prepare for Year 7. Partner Primary school staff will accompany students during the Taster Day, facilitating the transition process. Transportation arrangements to and from NHS are organised by our partner primary schools in collaboration with parents and carers. For specific dates and times tailored to each school, please refer to the key dates page on our website.

● Individual Education Plan Meeting

The purpose of an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is to provide a personalised plan that outlines specific academic and other goals for a student with disabilities or other learning challenges. The plan is tailored to the individual needs of the student, considering their strengths and areas for development. We develop IEP’s in Term 4 to ensure that teachers have all of the required information from Day 1 of Year 7. Students will be nominated by their primary school for IEP meetings in Term 3. NHS staff will contact you directly if you have been nominated for support to organise an IEP development meeting early Term 4. More information on Personalised Learning and Support can be found on the DoE Website.

● 7UP! Program

The purpose of the 7UP! Program is to help students make a smooth transition from primary school to high school. The transition from primary to secondary school can be a challenging time for many students, as they may face new academic and social challenges, and may need to adjust to a new school environment and new routines.

The 7UP! Program will be delivered by members of the Learning and Support team, including the Head Teacher Wellbeing, Year 7 Advisor and The Learning and Support Teacher. The 7UP! Program can help to alleviate any anxieties or concerns that students may have about the transition. By providing information and guidance about what to expect in high school, students can feel more prepared and confident about the challenges they may face.

Our partner primary schools nominate students who they feel would benefit from the program. Students are required to make their own way to and from NHS (unless otherwise advised by your primary school) and bring their own food and drink. This event will run from 9.00am-12.00pm, parents can pick up and drop off at the front of NHS.

● Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student Morning Tea

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are invited for a yarn and morning tea to support the transition to high school and build an understanding of the support and opportunities here at NHS. Students will begin to develop Personalised Learning Pathways with support from the Aboriginal Education Team, partake in team building and cultural activities with Clontarf, Ngaarr Dhui and our Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO).

Students are required to make their own way to and from NHS (unless otherwise advised by your primary school) and bring their own food and drink.

● Orientation Day

The program is targeted at all Year 6 students enrolling at NHS, who spend their first day at high school all together in readiness for Day 1. The day is facilitated with Peer Support Leaders and key NHS staff. There will be a parent/carer zone, providing the opportunity to ask questions and build an understanding of NHS, purchase uniforms and setup payment plans.

Students are required to make their own way to and from NHS (unless otherwise advised by your primary school). Whilst lunch is provided, we encourage students to bring their own snacks and drink. This event will run from 9.15am-2.30pm, parents/carers can pick up and drop off at the front of Newcastle High School.
