Report

The Learning and Support Team would like to extend a warm welcome to our Newcastle High School families and community in 2025. We value our partnership in supporting students throughout their academic, cultural and personal growth during their time with us.

The Learning Hub

The Newcastle High School Learning Hub is open to all students throughout the week. The Learning Hub is a safe, supportive and collaborative space where students can work independently, or in small groups, to complete class work or assessment tasks, under the supervision and guidance of our Learning and Support staff:

  • Mrs Fiona Brain (Year 7 & Year 10)
  • Ms Janet Martinez (Year 8 & Year 12)
  • Ms Robyn Outram (Year 9 & Year 11)
  •  Mrs Angela Walsh (English as an Additional Language or Dialect - EAL/D)
  • Miss Kasey Douglas (SLSO)

Students can book a session in the Learning Hub on Wednesdays and Fridays (Periods 2-4) via the Hub Check-in icon on their Student Splash Page. They should confirm with their classroom teacher before booking and ensure their booking is made before 9:00 am. Additionally, the Learning Hub is also open before school on Thursdays for students in Years 7 to 10 via the Hub Check-in system and on Thursday afternoons (Periods 4 and 5) for students in Years 11 and 12.

NAPLAN Disability Provisions

NAPLAN will take place from Wednesday 12 March to Monday 24 March. The Learning and Support Team is arranging disability provisions for eligible students. If your child qualifies for these provisions, a Learning and Support teacher will contact you to discuss the arrangements.

Year 11 Minimum Standard testing

Ms Outram will administer Minimum Standard testing for Year 11 students in 2025. Any Year 11 student who has not attempted Minimum Standard in Reading, Numeracy and/or Writing should see Ms Outram at the top of C-Block this week to arrange a testing time.

For students who did not meet the minimum standard in Year 10 last year, additional support will be provided, and testing dates will be announced at a later date.

Year 12 HSC Disability Provisions

Students on our current school-based provisions list and their families received an information pack at the end of last year regarding 2025 HSC Disability Provisions. This is a friendly reminder that applications close at the end of Term 1. The application process is detailed and collaborative, so we encourage you to submit the Medical Form and Student Declaration as soon as possible. If you have any questions, or require additional copies of the documentation, please contact Ms Martinez on 4969 3177 or via email at  janet.martinez@det.nsw.edu.au.

We look forward to working with you and supporting your child’s learning journey throughout the year.
