Star Struck, NAIDOC Week, School Reports & Happy Holidays

Star Struck

Star Struck is an annual performing arts event for Newcastle, the Hunter and Central Coast led by the NSW Department of Education. It is a showcase of dance, drama and music performed by students from Kindergarten to Year 12 from a vast network of NSW public schools.  Star Struck is one of the largest performance events presented in the area and, as such, enjoys immense local support from the community, which we are extremely proud to have been a part of this year. Congratulations to the students from our school who were involved in this wonderful event this year.  A huge thank you to all our parents, carers and staff who supported our students through being ‘star struck’ this year.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. FIND MORE HERE.

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  As these dates fall in the school holidays, Newcastle High School celebrates NAIDOC Week at the beginning of next term, where our school will engage with our partner primary schools in a combined artwork that symbolises our partnership and strong beliefs about the importance of Aboriginal Education in our schools. Our school has been absolutely thriving with positivity and strong connections amongst students, staff and community through engaging in this NAIDOC initiative.  We look forward to sharing the design as it is co-developed across our school community throughout Term 3.

School Reports

School reports will be uploaded and available to parents on the Newcastle High School Sentral Student and Parent Portal at the end of this term.  Sentral Portal Access - Information HERE

If you experience any difficulty accessing Sentral, please follow the prompts detailed on our website, or contact the school Office for assistance.

Happy Holidays

We have had a very positive and productive Semester 1 and we wish everyone a restful and relaxing winter school holiday period.  School resumes on Tuesday 23 July for Term 3.  Please be advised that Monday 22 July is a pupil-free day, where the school Office is open for enquires.  All teaching staff are engaged in professional learning on this pupil-free day, working on programming and assessment for the new curriculum.
