Principal's Report

Principal - Janene Rosser

Good Luck Y12, Semester 1 Excellence Awards, Term 3 P&C Meeting, School Redevelopment update and Public Education Week 2025.

Good Luck Year 12

Year 12 students will complete their Trial Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations this term and we wish them all the very best.  The Trial HSC is a significant milestone for them, as this represents the final part of our school-based assessment. Term 3 is a pivotal time for Year 12, finalising content, consolidating skills and knowledge, engaging in revision, and fine-tuning understandings.  It is crucial that students remain focused, motivated, and energised in Term 3 leading into the HSC examination period, as we work together to make every minute count. Thank you for our community’s full support of HSC Excellence at NHS.

Semester 1 Excellence Awards

This term we will celebrate the Semester 1 achievements of our students through the Excellence Awards, held during Year Assemblies.  Our award recipients will receive recognition for academic excellence, leadership, citizenship and outstanding attendance.  The culture of our school is enriched by all of our students who strive to demonstrate our core values through their positive behaviour every day.  Well done to the students receiving this recognition of excellence.  We will publish the names of award recipients as each Year Assembly is held throughout the term.

School Focus Areas to Report

School Redevelopment Update

There has been a great deal of progress with the rebuild works over the past few months, which has been very exciting for the school community to see the new school site taking shape. Buildings have been ‘topped out’ with the roof going on and fitting out work is well underway of both the New Learning Hub (NLH) and Hall.  Plans are being made for moving in and we hope to be learning in our new spaces soon.

In Week 5, three groups of 22 students will be going on site for a tour of the NLH, to experience the new buildings and spaces firsthand.  This is a roster day off for the construction workforce, making the site available for these student tours.  We have many excited students awaiting this experience!  In addition, works have commenced with Newcastle City Council on the new school crossings, a long-awaited necessity for the school that we are thrilled to see coming to fruition. These works have resulted in many changes to parking and our ability to use the various gates around the school.  We ask that students, parents and staff take notice of the signage in the streets surrounding the school as changes occur.

Formal updates and announcements regarding the school re-development come directly to parents/carers from the NSW School Infrastructure Delivery Team (not Newcastle High School) sent to you via your family email accounts recorded in School Bytes.

If you have any questions, please contact SINSW directly by emailing schoolinfrastructure@det.nsw.edu.au or calling 1300 482 651 (Monday to Friday during business hours).
