Book Week, Isaac Lourie AFL Cup, Wear it Purple & Head Teacher Administration

Book Week

In Week 6, Newcastle High School and Cooks Hill Campus launched our Book Week celebrations, further developing our learning culture focused on a love of reading.  Students and staff engaged in a week of activities, fun, competitions, and dress up.  Thank you to Mrs Dubois, our Teacher Librarian, for her enthusiasm, hard work and creativity in bringing Book Week to life in 2023.

Isaac Lourie AFL Cup

The annual Isaac Lourie Cup was held on Friday 25 August at No. 1 Sports Field, Newcastle City, in loving memory of our former student Isaac who tragically passed away.

Newcastle High School's Open Girls AFL team were victorious against our archrivals Merewether High School in the opening match of the Cup.  Both teams played exceptionally well, with Newcastle High School winning convincingly.

Unfortunately, the night could not proceed as intended, after a student from Merewether High School was injured at the start of the boy’s match; whereby play was suspended, to ensure that health and safety was prioritised.  We are happy to report that he was discharged from hospital later in the evening.

Thank you to Andrew Doherty and the Newcastle City Junior Football Club for their support of this event.

Wear it Purple

On Friday 25 August, we celebrated and acknowledged Wear it Purple Day in support and solidarity with our rainbow youth.   Newcastle High School strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people and is proud of our culture of inclusivity, diversity and tolerance.  Wear it Purple Day is about showing LGBTQI+ young people that they have the right to be proud of who they are, with the theme this year as “Write Your Story” representing messages of personal expression and individuality within the LGBTQI+ community.

Head Teacher Administration

The merit selection process to recruit our new Head Teacher Administration at Newcastle High School has been finalised late last term.  I would like to congratulate and welcome Mr Eddie Redding to the position.  We look forward to Eddie’s leadership of administration at our school, and the teaching and learning skills he brings with his computing and technology capabilities.
