Principal's Report

Principal - Janene Rosser

Merry Christmas, Graduation and Presentation Days, Isaac Lourie Music Scholarship 2022, Year 7 2022, Year 12 2022 and School Reports

This is the final Principal’s Report for the school year, featured in Parkway. On behalf of Newcastle High School, I would like to wish all of our community a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  I hope the festive season is full of love, laughter and joy.

At the conclusion of a year full of challenges, I thank and acknowledge our community for the way we have worked together in partnership to get through a second year educating our children through a pandemic.  I am looking forward to welcoming in the New Year with positivity and optimism, and hopefully without COVID disruptions.

School resumes on Friday 28 January 2022 for staff only.  We have two consecutive days of School Development, where we will be engaged in professional learning and school planning.  The school Administration Office will be open for enquiries from Friday 28 January.

Our first day with students in attendance is Tuesday 1 February for Years 7, 11 and 12 only.  Wednesday 2 February is the first day for all students returning, with all cohorts together for 2022.

Graduation and Presentation Days

Congratulations to all of our students being recognised for excellence at our Graduation and end of year Presentation Days.  Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 these ceremonies have been in a modified format for the second consecutive year.  We are looking forward to restrictions on gatherings being lifted and having an audience in 2022.  Again, we are greatly sorry for the disruption in our ability to welcome into the school our parents, carers and community in large numbers for these events.  Our celebrations to end the year have included the Year 12 Graduation, Year 12 Formal, Year Assemblies, Exhibitions and Graduation at Cooks Hill Campus.  Congratulations to all students showcasing their learning and being recognised for outstanding academics, sporting, cultural and personal learning achievements over 2021.

Year 12 Graduation was recorded and a link to the video has been emailed to Year 12 parents. This video is also posted in the news section of our website https://tinyurl.com/yc2nbkzx, please note it will be removed from that article on Friday 17 December 2021.

Year 12 Formal

The Year 12 Formal, Class of 2021 was held on Thursday 9 December at Merewether Surf House.  It was a wonderful celebration for our 2021 alumni, full of fun, glamour, memories and positivity about the bright future ahead for this amazing group of young adults.  The Formal was captured by MSP Photography.

Isaac Lourie Music Scholarship 2022

Newcastle High School is pleased to announce Julia K. as the recipient of the Isaac Lourie Music Scholarship for 2022.

Julia will be in her final year during 2022. Julia is very excited for the 12 months of lessons and access to a guitar for rehearsal time at home.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Lourie family for their generosity and support for this prestigious award.

Year 7 2022

Throughout the term, we have been warmly welcoming our new Year 7, 2022 students for Transition Days in small groups modified for COVID-19 guidelines.  We have 205 new Year 7 students who we will be placed into their core classes to commence 2022, including our SAIL Class, Passion Mentors Class and mixed ability grouped students.  All students in Year 7 for 2022 require a computer for their learning, with more information available on our website at:

Everyone is looking forward to getting to know our newest members of the Newcastle High School community on their first day of high school on Tuesday 1 February 2022.

Information about transition to high school can be found HERE.

Year 12 2022

Year 12 Class of 2022 are well under way with their Higher School Certificate (HSC) assessment this term and I am very pleased with their application and effort transitioning well into their final year of schooling after the COVID disruption of lock down.  All students have been issued with their 2022 HSC Assessment Booklet and they have been given information about the extensive support we will be offering for senior students to engage with their learning and achieve their goals through targeted programs, staff support, study skills and learning culture improvements.

HSC and Year 12 excellence will be supported and led in 2022 with our school appointed Head Teacher Senior School, Mrs Suzanne Parrott, including a variety of Senior Support programs and personalised learning approaches centralised from the newly refurbished Library.

Constant reminders of the critical importance of hard work, application and effort will be the focus of our Year Meetings and support in 2022, with students being reminded of the leadership they provide to model learning-centred behaviour to our other students in the school.

School Reports

School reports will be uploaded and available to parents on the Newcastle High School Sentral Student and Parent Portal from Week 10:
