Happy Holidays, Works Commence and P&C Meeting

Happy Holidays

The last day of school for Term 1 is Friday 12 April, marking the start of a two-week school holiday period between Monday 15 April to Monday 29 April.  We wish all our families and students an enjoyable school holiday.  School returns for all students in Term 2 on Tuesday 30 April.  Staff have a full day of professional learning focused on the New Curriculum on Monday 29 April, which is a pupil-free day.

During the school holidays, ANZAC Day will be held, where we will remember them.  Newcastle High School students will represent our community at two key commemorative services; the ANZAC Day Dawn Service held at the Gregson Park, Hamilton on Thursday 25 April and the Long Tan Village ANZAC Day Service on Tuesday 23 April 2024.  Community members and students are encouraged to join us at the Hamilton Dawn Service.  As a school, we will hold our annual school ANZAC Assembly on Thursday 2 May (Term 2, Week 1).

Works Commence

On Tuesday 5 March, the Builder Hansen Yunken arrived to commence works on our re-development. The site fencing erected around the school is designed to keep the two major building sites separated from our playground, keeping us all safe and removed from the construction works.  Signage around our school fences indicates the areas that are now construction zones and gates that are accessible are marked around our perimeter.

We have modified the playground in light of the builder’s site fencing plan (see school map below). There is no longer a staff car park on site, to allow more safe playground areas for students to use.  In addition, we have opened the Hall for basketball during breaks and added more handball courts.  The playground map also shows the gates that are accessible for coming in/out of the school.

PDHPE classes will access our neighboring parks and facilities more frequently from this term, with a permission note coming home requesting your approval for your child to use these sites near the school during supervised lessons for PDHPE, Sport and SLR.

Our students and staff have been absolutely outstanding in the way in which we have all rallied around each other with positivity, to manage and adapt to these playground changes.  Everyone is excited and feeling very privileged to be a part of this significant part of the history of Newcastle High School.

To keep up to date with the Newcastle High School re-development, please join us at the P&C Meetings every term, Monday Week 5, or follow the communication releases being sent by School Infrastructure NSW and details found on this website:

P&C Meetings

The next P&C Meeting and Parent Forum will be held on Monday 27 May (Term 2, Week 5) 5:30-7pm face-to-face in the Library.

Parents, carers and community are encouraged to attend, where we will be consulting and communicating about many fundamental issues affecting our school in 2024.
