18 Dec 2024
As 2024 comes to a close, it is a pleasure to reflect on a year filled with growth, achievements, and resilience. While our students have excelled in their studies and embraced a range of exciting opportunities, we have also navigated the challenges of a significant school rebuild. The construction has transformed our physical environment, requiring adaptability and patience from everyone. I am incredibly proud of how our staff, students, and families have united to maintain our focus on learning and community, proving that Newcastle High School thrives regardless of external circumstances.
Year 7
Our Year 7 students have made a seamless transition to high school, embracing their new environment with energy and positivity. Their enthusiasm was evident during the Year 7 Camp, where students bonded with peers, built resilience, and demonstrated our core values of respect, responsibility, and participation. Events such as the BYOD Bootcamp and Wellbeing Day equipped them with the skills to thrive both academically and socially, while also fostering a sense of belonging within our school community.
This year, Year 7 students have explored their passions through creative projects, participated eagerly in sporting carnivals, and demonstrated their potential in both the classroom and beyond. Their involvement in Peer Support program, guided by senior student leaders, has been instrumental in establishing a supportive and inclusive environment. Thank you to Mr. Shane Kegel, their Year Advisor, for his leadership and care throughout this important transition year.
Year 11
Our Year 11 students have approached their Preliminary year with focus and determination, building a strong foundation as they transitioned into their HSC studies. This cohort has shown a genuine commitment to their academic and personal development, applying themselves diligently to perform well in their first assessment tasks this term. Their use of senior study space and engagement with mentors has been critical in setting them up for success.
Guided by the principles of Operation Fast Start, Year 11 students have embraced the habits required in order to maximise their potential. They have demonstrated the importance of showing up ready to learn, focusing on continuous improvement, and preparing thoroughly for assessments. This proactive and determined approach has ensured they are well-positioned for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead over the next 12 months.
Looking Ahead
While 2024 has brought significant change with the school rebuild, it has also shown the strength of our community. The new learning spaces that are taking shape promise an exciting future for Newcastle High School, one that will enhance teaching and learning for years to come.
As we approach 2025, I encourage all students to take time over the holiday break to relax, recharge, and reflect on their achievements. Year 11 students can look forward to continuing their senior journey, while Year 7 students are now ready to step confidently into the next stage of their high school experience.
Thank you to all staff, students, and families for your support and contributions to making 2024 a truly remarkable year. I look forward to seeing you all in 2025, ready to embrace new opportunities together.
Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday season.
Warm regards,
Joel Anderson
Deputy Principal (Years 7 and 11)
