Happy Holidays, Ngaar Dhuwi Girls Academy & News Roundup
Happy Holidays
At the end of a busy term, I would like to wish our learning community a very happy holiday over the Easter break. We have started the year focused on returning to school with positive, learning focused behaviour, and establishing routines that support the achievement of excellence in student outcomes and wellbeing. Thank you to everyone within our learning community for their support this term.
School resumes for Term 2, for all students on Wednesday 26 April.
Please note that Monday 24 April is a pupil-free School Development Day, whereby the school office is open for basic enquiries only. Staff will be unavailable for parent/carer enquiries, being engaged in professional learning focused on Aboriginal Education and staff cultural competence.
Ngaar Dhuwi Girls Academy
It is with great excitement that we announce that Newcastle High School (NHS) will be introducing the Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy Program into our school for commencement in 2024.
The Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy Program aims to provide a mentoring program to support female Aboriginal students in Years 7-12 to make active choices toward realising their full potential in all aspects of their education, development, cultural identity and wellbeing. It is a holistic support program reflective of community voices driven locally in collaboration with our schools’ vision and directions.
The aims for Aboriginal girls in the program will be to:
● Increase school attendance
● Increase in HSC attainment
● Provide post school transition pathways
● Improve retention rates
● Promote self-determination and positive change and
● Improve health and wellbeing
As the planning and preparation develops throughout the year, we will be providing opportunities for students, parents, carers and the community to learn more about what the Ngaarr Dhuwi Girls Academy Program will be all about at NHS.
