Report, Clontarf Annual Awards and Attendance

Report

Term 4 is a hive of activity at Newcastle High School, with many community events and activities occurring across the school in the sporting, cultural, leadership, and academic realms. Our Higher School Certificate examinations have concluded, and we eagerly await the results with our Year 12 Class of 2023 in December. The senior leaders represented the school at the GRIP Conference and local RSL Remembrance Day commemorations; and they have been keenly planning their 2024 leadership initiatives, aimed at invigorating, and inspiring the student body to engage in the culture of the school.  Our new Mobile Phone Procedures have been a huge success to date, which is an absolute testament to the well-mannered, considerate young people we are privileged to work with at our school each day. Students, Staff and Parents/Carers truly have been fantastic about these changes. Transition events for Year 6 into Year 7 students is occurring regularly and we are busy preparing final assessments to complete reports for the end of the year.

Clontarf Annual Awards

Our annual Clontarf Academy Awards were held on Tuesday 7 November, where we celebrated and acknowledged our four graduating Year 12 alumni and special award recipients for 2023. Our former Principal Mr. Nathan Towney was our guest speaker, and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing about his life journey and passion for our Aboriginal community.  Congratulations to our Award recipients and to all the Clontarf Academy young men for a fantastic 2023.

Attendance

When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children.

Parents and carers can help foster positive attendance habits by:

·  helping their child learn the importance of punctuality and routine

·  ensuring their child arrives on time from the start of the school day, ready to participate in learning

·  reducing disruption to learning where possible, by planning any necessary appointments outside of school time

·  promptly communicating any absence to the school (within 7 days of the first day of any absence)

·  working with the school to encourage and support regular attendance.
