Supporting Online Language Learning, French and Japanese Movies, Fun End of Term Activity for Japanese, Recognising Success In Year 7 & Year 12 Students Dreaming of Traveling to Japan
Supporting Online Language Learning
During this term, some students have had to stay at home due to illness. Whilst we encourage students to rest if they are unwell, World Languages is committed tosupporting students’ learning from home, if they are well enough to continue their studies.
All students have access to all lessons via the school’s digital platform, CANVAS and our teachers are happy to answer questions by email and mark any work that is submitted digitally.
Assessment Task notices, digital language games and free apps and other resources are also available in CANVAS. We strongly encourage both parents and students to stay in touch and to check for language lessons and resources in CANVAS. Finally, the Department of Education has also provided more general resources to help support student language learning at home.
For light relief when students are not studying, you may be interested in knowing that Netflix has recently added some classic Studio Ghibli Japanese anime such as Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service. For French, Apple TV has Asterix the movie and others.
Fun End of Term Activity for Japanese
In Japan it is now cherry blossom season and so the Year 7 students will finish this term with a Hanami (Cherry Blossom Viewing) party in our room. Hanami is a major Japanese cultural festival.
Recognising Success in Year 7
In addition to the school wide GOTCHA program, students in World Languages are recognised for their application in language, kindness and diligence. There have been many outstanding students in both French and Japanese and these students are but a few.
Year 12 Students Dreaming of Traveling to Japan
This term the senior students of Japanese have been learning how to discuss travel plans. After learning about some of the amazing places in Japan, many of them now have dreams of travelling there one day. We are very proud of the progress that Year 12 are making with their language studies.
