Surf Survival Course

Surf Survival Course 2021-4

Hunter Surf Life Saving

February 3rd and 4th saw eighteen of our Newcastle High School students participate in Hunter Surf Life Saving’s, Surf Survival Course. The course is essential for students wishing to participate in school surfing events.

The first day was held at school, where students developed knowledge and skills in identifying beach and surf hazards, basic first aid, CPR training, surfing etiquette and how to respond in emergency situations.

The weather and surf conditions were ideal on the second day and the previous day’s theory was put into practice. At both Newcastle Baths and Nobbys Beach our students were required to perform a series of practical tasks including; an ocean swim and run, a series of board and surf rescue exercises and water survival techniques.

Congratulations to all students involved, as they were fantastic ambassadors for our school. They had a great time and more importantly, are now more knowledgeable in the risks and dangers that can be experienced when in or near the ocean and river systems. The skills these students learnt may one day save their own or someone else’s life.
