Students from room 15 have enjoyed learning about Japanese culture, language, food and art. Students were lucky enough to travel to Maitland Art Gallery (before Covid) to view some modern art by Japanese artist, Kei Takamura.

They also explored traditional art techniques by copying sketches and paintings and had a go at creating their own. The greatest level of enthusiasm was when students had Japanese food tasting days where they tried miso soup, wakame (a type of seaweed) and other delicacies. They also discovered that grape flavoured lollies were their favourite confectionery. Students also made sushi and were able to take samples home for their families. Learning about traditional Japanese outfits, culminated in a photoshoot of students in kimono and yukata.

In addition, to all the amazing experiences, students in room 15 were able to showcase their skills in writing haiku. Not to mention how quickly some students have learned to recognise phonetic Japanese letters (hiragana). GAMBATTE KUDASA!
