Thursday Mountain Biking

A variety of sports are available for all students at NHS. In 2020, despite the recent events, Mountain Biking returned to Thursday afternoons. Students in year seven are able to participate in the passion project “Mountain Biking Thrills and Skills”, while students in years eight, nine and ten can join the advanced Mountain Biking group.

Thrills and skills is targeted towards beginners and enhances students close handling skills, including rough riding and cornering. The advanced group visits Glenrock each week to practice their turns, handling on undulating downhill runs and tighter cornering. Students regularly enjoy the jumps at the Six Shooter park at the end of each week.

All students are welcome to participate in Mountain Biking, but must bring their own equipment and ensure they are road safe and capable of some aggressive downhill riding. Three staff members of Newcastle High School are certified Mountain Bike instructors and are on supervision at all times.
