Wellbeing Focus
Student wellbeing is central to the learning environment at Cooks Hill Campus. Our approach recognises that students thrive when they feel safe, supported, connected and understood. Wellbeing support is integrated into everyday school life through personalised learning, strong relationships with staff, and targeted programs that support students socially, emotionally and academically.
A Personalised Approach to Wellbeing
CHC operates with a strong focus on individualised support. Our Learning and Support Team (LST) works collaboratively with advisors, families and external agencies to ensure that students receive the support they need to engage in learning and achieve positive outcomes.
The team provides:
- individualised wellbeing support
- early intervention and case management
- coordination of student learning and wellbeing plans
- support for students with additional learning or health needs
- referral pathways to external services and specialised programs
All support is documented and monitored through school systems to ensure that interventions are effective and responsive to student needs.
Positive Education
Positive Education is embedded across the campus to support students’ emotional wellbeing, resilience and personal development.
Through advisory sessions and whole-school programs, students develop skills such as:
- emotional regulation
- resilience and coping strategies
- positive relationships
- self-awareness and strengths
- goal setting and personal growth
Positive Education at CHC is aligned with PDHPE outcomes as well as the PEEC curriculum.
Canvas Wellbeing Hub
Students can access additional support through the Learning and Support Wellbeing page on Canvas. This online space provides a central hub where students can find:
- resources related to the Five Ways to Wellbeing
- Positive Education lessons delivered through advisory
- wellbeing information and strategies
- links to support services and helpful resources
- RAFT reports for reporting bullying
The Canvas page allows students to revisit wellbeing content, explore strategies at their own pace and access support when they need it.
Wellbeing Programs and Groups
CHC offers a range of targeted wellbeing groups and programs designed to strengthen student engagement and social connection. These groups are developed in response to student voice and identified needs each term.
Wellbeing groups provide opportunities for students to:
- build confidence and social skills
- strengthen peer relationships
- participate in creative, physical or therapeutic activities
- develop a sense of belonging within the school community
Students who may benefit from additional social-emotional support are prioritised for participation.
Peer Support and Community Connection
Peer support is an important part of the CHC wellbeing framework. Through structured programs, students develop leadership, responsibility and empathy while supporting one another. All new students at CHC have the opportunity to part-take in the peer support program run by their peers.
Support for Diverse Learning and Wellbeing Needs
CHC provides tailored adjustments and support for students with a range of learning and wellbeing needs. This includes support for students experiencing:
- anxiety or mental health challenges
- specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia
- autism and other neurodivergent profiles
- complex learning, behavioural or social-emotional needs
Adjustments may include personalised learning plans, structured routines, assistive technologies, quiet spaces, small-group support and one-to-one assistance where required.
Strong Partnerships with Families and Services
Supporting student wellbeing is a collaborative process. CHC works closely with families, allied health professionals and community services to ensure students receive coordinated support both inside and outside the classroom.
A Whole-School Commitment
Wellbeing is a shared responsibility across the campus. All staff contribute to creating a culture built on Trust • Respect • Care ... by embedding wellbeing into everyday school practice, CHC aims to create an environment where every student feels valued, supported and able to reach their full potential.

Student Wellbeing
Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.
The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allow them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
Student Leadership
Student leadership helps young people find their voices, participate in decision-making, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens. It helps students have a real impact on their learning and school environment and prepares them to participate meaningfully in their community.
Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.

School Counselling
School counselling staff are members of the school learning and support team.
A teacher may recommend the service by referring a student to the school’s learning and support team.
As a parent or carer, you may refer your child directly to the school counselling service. Students can also self-refer to the service.
The school counselling service can:
- support students who are worrying about school work, friends, getting in trouble at school or feeling down
- help parents and carers make decisions about your child’s education
- assess a student’s learning and behaviour
- help teachers and students identify and address disabilities that may affect learning
- liaise with other agencies regarding student wellbeing.
School counselling is confidential. For more information about learning and support teams and the school counselling service, visit:
