Canvas Access

Parents must have an active Sentral account to access Canvas. You will need to access Canvas using either, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox internet browser to ensure Canvas runs correctly.

Canvas is the Newcastle High's learning management system and provides a comprehensive eLearning environment and experience.

Advantages include easy access to curriculum resources, assessment tasks and feedback. Students can participate in collaborative, engaging, multimedia-based learning experiences. Canvas integrates seamlessly with the Office 365 suite meaning students can store their work in the cloud and submit to Canvas. Canvas makes management of student learning requirements much easier, providing online personalised calendars, learning agendas and To Do lists.

Parent Access to Canvas

Parents access Canvas via the image above or the Sentral Parent Portal. Parents need to have linked their Parent Portal account to their student using the Family Key before accessing Canvas as an observer. Here are the basics:

> connect your child in Sentral Parent Portal using the Family Key emailed to you - search for Access Key in your emails

> Sentral will sync with Canvas overnight - you will need to wait until the next day to proceed further

> login to Canvas from within the Sentral Parent Portal or Parent Access link on this site - please don't login using the Teacher/Student Canvas Access button on the school website, this only works for staff and students

> the first time you go to Canvas click on forgot password as we legally can't sync passwords

> you will be sent an email from Canvas to reset your password, please follow the directions in this email

> when you login to Canvas do not use the Microsoft Login button, this is only for staff and students

Family Key Issues

If you can't find your family key please email newcastle-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the following details:

Subject: CANVAS ACCESS

Content: your STUDENTS FULL NAME/S and the FULL NAMES OF PARENT/S requiring access.

Student Access to Canvas

Students access Canvas through the link provided on this page or the Sentral Student Portal. Most students will be familiar with how to access and use Canvas as it is used during classes at school.
