Happy Holidays, NAPLAN Results 2022, R U OK ?, Good Luck Year 12 and Senior Leadership Positions 2023

Happy Holidays

On behalf of all the staff and community of Newcastle High School, I wish you a safe and restful spring break.  I would like to thank our learning community of students, parents and staff for the amazing work completed in partnership this term.

Day 1 Term 4 commences on Monday 10 October, when all students return to school.  There is no pupil-free day to start Term 4.

NAPLAN Results 2022

2022 NAPLAN assessment results have been sent home to families of students in Year 7 and Year 9 during Weeks 7-8.  Year 9 NAPLAN test results in 2022 have been outstanding and we are extremely proud to be showing whole school growth and improvement in Literacy and Numeracy.  Year 9 NAPLAN graphs are included below, showing that Newcastle High School students are above State results in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation (shown in the green line on the graphs). Well Done NHS!

NAPLAN assessments are reported on scales which show how students have performed compared to established standards. Assessment scales also allow achievement to be mapped as a student progresses through schooling. See more on the scales and standards at How to interpret.  Results of the tests for the National Assessment Program are reported in a number of ways, including national reports, individual student reports, and school-level reporting on the My School website.  NAPLAN assessments are not pass/fail tests.   More on the individual student report is found HERE.  Please contact the school if you have concerns or would like to discuss the results for your child/ren further.  Our Learning and Support Teachers (LaSTs) or your relevant Deputy Principal can assist you directly about NAPLAN support.

R U OK?

R U OK? Day was Thursday 8 September, where we encouraged staff and students to take the time to check in on each other and start important wellbeing conversations.  Asking this simple question, “Are you okay?” can help change a life.

Good Luck Year 12

We have farewelled our Year 12 students in the final week of this term at our Formal and Graduation.  For those completing a Higher School Certificate (HSC), we will be supporting students accessing tuition and support through our HSC in the Holidays, organised by Mrs. Parrott our Head Teacher Secondary Studies.  Students have been informed of all HSC examination plans and timetables, and we wish them all the very best as we head into the examination period.

Senior Leadership Positions 2023

Our candidates for the Senior Leadership positions presented their speeches to the school this term at a whole school assembly, and voting has taken place as we prepare to announce and induct our new Senior Leaders for 2023.

We have postponed the last part of our senior leadership selection processes into Term 4, due to the Public Holiday for the National Day of Mourning for the Queen’s passing impacting our scheduled interviews.  Mr. Sam Crichton (Senior Leadership Coordinator) has adjusted the final part of the selection processes to be delivered in Week 1 of Term 4.

The 2023 candidates for school captain, vice-captain, prefects and SRC leaders will be supported through these processes, and we look forward to announcing the outcome to our learning community early in Term 4.  Good luck to all those nominating for these senior leadership roles.
