Report

Term 2 has been a very challenging term, many disruptions and many restrictions, but as a school community we have managed to successfully overcome them all.  I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the staff and students across both of our sites, as well as our parents and carers. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved, how as a school we demonstrated resilience and adaptability, and the manner in which we came together. May you all have a well deserved holiday break!

Semester 1 Student Reports

On Friday 3 July, parents and carers can access their child’s Semester 1 Report via the Sentral Parent Portal. Due to COVID-19 we have modified our reports to allow for the at home learning period.

For access to the Sentral Parent Portal, select below image to login.

Your username is the full email address,  you previously used to set up the parent portal. Please be aware if you have forgotten your password, there is a “forgot password” function at the bottom of the login page. This will allow you to have a new password sent to your email address. You then need to enter a family key to link you to your student/s - keys have been emailed out, search for ‘NHS Sentral Portal Access Key’.

If you cannot locate your family key and/or you are new to the school and have not had a parent portal account set up, please send the school an email request and this process can be completed.

Email us at Newcastle High School with these details:

- Subject: SENTRAL PORTAL ACCESS

- Content: your STUDENTS FULL NAME/S and the FULL NAMES OF PARENT/S requiring access, and the email address you intend to use for accessing Sentral

Our technology team will email you a set of instructions.

Once you have registered on the parent portal, follow these instructions to access your child’s report:

1.    When you log in to your parent portal, click on the image of your child.

2.    On the left hand side menu, click on the word “Reporting”.

3.    Your child’s report will be available here, in a Sentral format and a PDF suitable for printing at home and download for digital storage.

Regional North Operational Directorate – Excellence Awards

This week, Mrs Caroline Smith, who is a member of our School Administrative and Support Staff, is being formally recognised for her outstanding contribution to Newcastle High School. Caroline is a committed and passionate member of staff who commenced her involvement with the school 15 years ago as a parent. She has previously undertaken executive roles in our P&C, before being employed as a Student Learning Support Officer. Caroline is an integral part of the school’s volunteer gardening group and has been instrumental in establishing our award-winning student ‘Recyclists’ team. Newcastle High is incredibly privileged to have her as a valued and trusted member of our school community. Congratulations Mrs Smith on receiving the RNOD Excellence Award.

Staff Updates

The conclusion of term 2 will see several NHS staff members fulfilling new roles.

Luke Kendall, our Cooks Hill Campus Adviser, was successful at merit selection in gaining the Relieving Head Teacher Transition and Engagement position at Callaghan College. He will be a significant loss to our school and will certainly be an incredible asset to Callaghan, who are very excited to have secured Luke’s skillset.

Shannen Holland has elected to take up a temporary position at Francis Greenway HS for the remainder of the year and 2021. She has been instrumental, along with Matt Samford in re-booting our PB4L initiatives. Shannen has worked for many years at NHS supporting the teaching of English and Drama.

Christina Hodge has been a long serving SAS staff member, having fulfilled roles in the front office and print room. After many years of dedicated service to the Department of Education and Newcastle High, Christina has decided to retire to spend more time with her family.

On behalf of all of the NHS community, sincere thanks are extended to Luke, Shannen and Christina, for the remarkable work that they each provided during their time at NHS. Their contributions have each been significant and they will be missed incredibly. We wish them all the best with their next adventure.

Proposed Building Works

A submission has been made to Schools Infrastructure NSW, for the construction of a COLA area and bus shelter bay, utilising school based funds. These works are currently going through the approvals process, hopefully we will hear back shortly in regards to our application. When we receive the update, I will be better positioned to inform the school community of the works.

Term 3

Term 3 will commence for all students on, Tuesday 21 July. Monday is a timetabled Staff Development Day for all staff across both of our sites. The SDD will be focused around ‘School Excellence in Action’ and the Department’s new school planning model. The professional learning that will be undertaken by school staff will aim to support our school to develop the 2021-2024 Strategic Improvement Plan.
